The qualification meets the academic requirements to apply for Graduate Membership (Grad IOSH) of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This is the first step to becoming a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner as a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH). It also accepted by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) as meeting the academic requirements for full membership (MIIRSM).

The NEBOSH National Diploma is the qualification for aspiring health and safety professionals, building directly upon the foundation of knowledge provided by the NEBOSH National General Certificate. It is designed to provide students with the expertise required to undertake a career as a safety and health practitioner and also provides a sound basis for progression to postgraduate study.

The qualification is divided into four units, each of which is assessed separately:

Unit A: Managing health and safety
Unit B: Hazardous agents in the workplace
Unit C: Workplace and work equipment safety
Unit D: Application of health and safety theory and practice

Students may choose to take individual units in any order over a five year period and will be awarded a unit certificate for each unit passed.

There no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however achievement of the National General Certificate or direct equivalent prior to undertaking the Diploma course is highly recommended.

For the E-learning route, students are provided with access to our interactive e-learning platform which contains all the course notes, coursework and a number of videos.

Coursework to be submitted can be completed online or submitted by post or email. The E-learning route contains the following resources to provide students with the best chance of success throughout the course period;

  • Homework Questions for submission and marking
  • Exercises for submission and marking
  • Sample Questions for extra practice (not for submission)
  • List of Further reading resources (free publications and websites)

You will be supported throughout your studies by our highly experienced NEBOSH tutors. A tutor will be assigned to you on induction and will be your contact for technical enquires during your studies. We will also contact you regularly to determine your progress.

Support is available via a variety of media, such as telephone, email and web conferencing software, so that you can be assured someone is there to assist you should the need arise.

The recommended study time for the Course is 468 hours of learning and research, and although we do not stipulate over what period that the delegate studies for the course we recommend that a delegate takes a minimum of 18 months to study and take all 4 Units.

Units A, B and C are each assessed by a three-hour written examination. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. Examinations are held in January and July and can be taken at a number of venues throughout the UK and Internationally. Unit D is a workplace-based assignment requiring application of learning across the syllabus, and is submitted following the examinations.

WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT WILL I RECEIVE?

You will be assigned a designated Diploma Tutor who will monitor your progress throughout your learning. They will mark your completed assignments and provide feedback, and will respond to your questions and queries when necessary.We will do our very best to ensure you are well prepared for gaining the qualification.

WHAT WILL I GAIN FROM THIS QUALIFICATION?

The NEBOSH takes your health and safety knowledge to a higher level, helping you effectively manage and advise on risks in the workplace. It will advance your skills as a health and safety practitioner and increase confidence in your abilities. In addition, the NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is accepted by IOSH as meeting the requirements for Graduate Membership (GradIOSH).

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however, it would be advisable for candidates to already hold a health and safety qualification such as the NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent. WHERE CAN I TAKE THE EXAMS?

We have exam centres throughout the UK, and around the Globe (At British Council HQ’s). So should not struggle to find an examination location too far from you. Let us know and we will try and find a location close to where you wish to take the exams.

IS IT THE SAME AS THE CLASSROOM COURSE?

Yes. The qualification does not stipulate which learning method you need to use to obtain your qualification. The syllabus for the courses, whether e-learning or classroom based is exactly the same.
