Are you looking to achieve a qualification in CDM?

….. Safety Management Consultancy’s web-based Award is a safe alternative to traditional classroom based learning.

We know that learning in a classroom and having your competence tested via formal exams is not for everyone. This Level 3 Award assesses your practical skills and the application of knowledge in the workplace instead.

This qualification is appropriate for candidates who will apply CDM Regulations in their job role and also for those who need to be aware of them in other job roles. This could be those acting in the position of Principal Designer, Principal Contractor or Client. It would also be suitable for Site Managers and person in control of building/ maintenance contracts.

The syllabus has been designed to cover all aspects/ topics needed for the role of a person who will apply CDM Regulations in their job role.

There are 2 individual mandatory units that must be completed to obtain the overall qualification.

  1. Overview of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
  2. Use of Guidance Tool systems for Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015

In addition, you need to achieve additional credits amongst the following optional units;

  • Clients’ Duties and Role under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
  • Principal Contractors’ Duties and Role under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
  • Designers’ Duties and Role under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015

The qualification is competence-based; candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units.  Assessment is achieved by measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.  Each candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

The qualification will be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified Assessor from SMC Ltd.

The qualification involves a 27 guided learning hours.

WHAT WILL I GAIN FROM THIS QUALIFICATION?

The Level 3 Award in Construction (Design and Management) Regulations qualification provides the knowledge required to meet the legal requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and a nationally recognised qualifications for candidates who will apply CDM Regulations in their job role and also for those who need to be aware of them in other job roles. This Award also provides a progression route to other discipline related qualifications.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

The flexibility of this qualification allows you to complete it in a time period to suit candidates. Normally this will be between 1-3 months but depends upon your current workload and the amount of time each candidate can contribute.

The qualification involves a minimum of 27 hours of guided learning study.

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however, candidates must be in a role that allows them to collect the required evidence. It would be advisable for candidates to already hold a health and safety qualification such as the IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS or Level 2 in H&S.

We will send you a Questionnaire before your begin to ensure that you are in a position to gain the necessary evidence for the qualification, and to ensure it is the right course for you.

WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT WILL I RECEIVE?

You will be assigned a designated NVQ tutor/ assessor who will monitor your progress throughout your learning. They will provide you with an induction, and they will mark your completed assignments and provide feedback, and will respond to your questions and queries when necessary. We will do our very best to ensure you are well prepared for gaining the qualification.

CAN I SUBMIT INFORMATION ON-LINE?

Our user friendly on-line system enables you to plan, organise, upload evidence and review your progress. The cloud based software gives you the freedom to access your ePortfolio anywhere at anytime. Your assessor also has access to your portfolio, so that you can liaise with them on-line, and they can review your work and monitor your progress also.
