Symrise Ltd was fined after a man cleaning near the screw conveyor machine, tripped and his finger came into contact with the moving parts of the machine. The worker suffered a partial amputation to his left hand following the incident.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the vacuum point, for cleaning this screw conveyor did not have good enough guarding to fully prevent people from coming into contact with the dangerous parts of the machine.
Symrise Ltd has been fined £55,000 and ordered to pay costs of £1293.
